Hello neighbor,

It has truly been an honor and pleasure to serve our district in the Oregon Legislature. During the campaign last year, people throughout the district told me about their concerns and what they want from the government. 

Since taking office in January, I took what I heard to Salem and advocated for rural communities by getting capital funding for Lowell and Row River, voting to support small businesses, improve education, improve accessibility to healthcare, while keeping costs down, and strengthening criminal statutes. 

We need a government comprised of people working together, not in opposition, to solve the issues plaguing us today – in short, those who embrace and practice the once vaunted Oregon Way.

I am committed to continue forging alliances and developing relationships with my colleagues, groups, organizations, and people throughout Oregon and in the district in order to improve the of lives of Oregonians now, and in the future.

I am determined and pledge to:

·       Defend and uphold the Constitution.

·       Protect people’s rights and ability to make their own decisions.

·       Work to minimize the size of the government and ensure money is spent wisely.

·       Focused on ensuring government regulations are practical and necessary.

·       Hold people accountable, and reward them, for their actions.

·       Ensure Oregon provides hope and possibilities for our children.

·       Build a sustainable and thriving economy.

Policy

It’s important that our government gets back to the basics: straight-forward, common-sense policy.

  • Invest where it matters for the long term both money and effort. Develop a curriculum, standards and expectations which prepare our children for life, wherever that may take them.

  • The Constitution begins with “We the People” and the Bill of Rights’ preamble states “...in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers...And as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government, will best ensure the beneficent ends of its institution.” Our rights were then clearly, and deliberately identified in several amendments – the Founding Fathers intentionally designed a government which serves the people, and established that We the People have specific rights which ensure the Government remains subordinate to the People, not the reverse. These articulated rights are therefore forever endowed to us and cannot be taken away.

  • A fundamental State responsibility is upholding the rule of law. Actions have consequences and criminals need to accountable for theirs.

  • Public funds enhance the lives of everyone in the community, and should not simply focus on a small subset or class of people. Everyone should contribute, because everyone benefits. Fiscal spending should include a stated purpose, articulable reasoning and evaluation criteria.

  • At its core government should protect the rule of law, protect property rights, procure certain goods and services (public and quasi-public goods) and provide opportunities for everyone to live their life and pursue their interests.

  • People are inherently different – the State should enable people to follow their beliefs and decide what is best for them and their future. Undue interference and mandates simply restrict options people can choose.
